Update – Mill Dam project extended, closed until January 31, 2016
The Conservation Authority is planning on completing long awaited concrete repairs to the Owen Sound Mill Dam. As a result, the gates will be raised immediately after the Thanksgiving weekend to allow the contractor to start the work. Water levels will drop but may fluctuate up and down depending on the amount of rain we receive this fall.
The contractor will be installing a temporary small dam behind the existing main gates so that the work area will be dry. All flows will be directed to the Mill Race and fishway. We are hopeful that the work can be completed by the end of November but it will be weather dependent.
Fish will still be able to migrate through the fishway. Unfortunately, in order to maintain a safe and secure work area, the access over the dam will be closed. The wooden deck will be removed and eventually replaced. No one will be allowed in this area.
If you wish to be kept up to date with this project or want to be informed regarding operations of the Mill Dam, contact John Bittorf (Water Resources Coordinator) by email j.bittorf@greysauble.on.ca and he will add you to our Mill Dam email list.
