Watershed Current Conditions

LOW WATER
MESSAGES

As part of our ongoing monitoring and analysis of conditions within the Grey-Sauble watershed we provide notification of the current status of both flood potential and low water conditions. The indicators at left and right, and the graphic on our home page are quick reports of the current condition within the watershed. In both cases green indicates a normal condition requiring no response or extra vigilance from the public. The two panels below describe the other conditions that may arise.

FLOOD MESSAGES

A yellow 'High Water Safety Bulletin' is issued to alert municipalities that the potential for flooding is being assessed and remind the public that rivers, streams and ponds may be unsafe for recreational or other activity

An orange 'Flood Advisory' is issued when there is potential for flooding in specific municipalities

A red 'Flood Warning' is issued after a flood forecast has been made which indicates that significant flooding is imminent or occurring in specific flood damage centres.
LOW WATER MESSAGES

A 'Level 1 Message' includes a request for a 10% voluntary reduction in water use

A 'Level 2 Message' adds an additional 10% (total 20%) voluntary reduction in water use

A 'Level 3 Message' may involve mandatory water use restrictions

Watershed Report Card

In cooperation with our municipal partners, Grey Sauble Conservation has created a Watershed Report Card as a simple tool to evaluate the health of our major watersheds: Sauble River, Sydenham River, Bighead River and Beaver River, as well as other smaller watersheds and subwatersheds. This 'Report Card' has been prepared as a full-colour poster and is available for viewing here on our website.
