Resilient Wetlands
This program explores wetlands through an emergent lens, beginning with the smallest, often-overlooked organisms living in the bottom substrate and building outward to larger wildlife and global systems. Students trace connections from macroinvertebrates to turtles and other species that depend on them, discovering how wetlands support entire food webs and species at risk. The program then expands to show how wetlands protect people by slowing and storing water, filtering pollution, and reducing flood impacts. Finally, students connect local wetlands to the world, learning how these ecosystems store carbon and play a vital role in global climate systems.
The program is made possible through Hydro One’s Energizing Life Community Fund.
