After a Harvest/Thinning
While precautions are taken to reduce damage during plantation management, such as carrying out these operations in the summer and winter months when the forest floor is more solid, there is always some amount of expected disturbance to the area.
Due to the type of machinery required to complete a plantation thinning operation, such as harvesters (to cut trees), forwarders (to move logs to the landing), and trucks (that transport logs to the sawmill), the harvested site may have tire ruts, piled logs, stumps, and other wood debris. Natural processes will quickly begin to restore damage left by machinery and the remaining trees will benefit from the newly opened canopy.
