Watershed Report Cards
What is a Watershed?
A watershed is an area of land drained by a creek or stream into a river which then drains into a body of water such as a lake or pond. Everything in a watershed is connected. Our actions upstream can affect conditions downstream.
Grey Sauble Conservation Authority (GSCA) oversees a diverse region that includes five major watersheds and several smaller ones that drain directly into Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. The landscape ranges from the sandy shores of Sauble Beach and wide agricultural lands to the Niagara Escarpment and the rolling hills of the Beaver Valley.
Why Measure Watershed Conditions?
In cooperation with Conservation Ontario and other conservation authorities throughout Ontario, GSCA produces a Watershed Report Card every five years. A five-year cycle allows time to understand potential problems, to work with municipalities, environmental organizations, and the public to measurably improve watershed health, and gather enough data to provide a reliable summary of watershed conditions
